Rend Your Hearts

I have good news. The Lord “is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9) This is clearly evidenced in our world today as well as in the time of the kings. Over the past weeks, how often have we read about kings doing evil in the sight of the Lord? Over and over and over again. Then God mercifully speaks through his prophets and priests calling the people to turn back to Him. The book of Joel includes a beautiful call from God to His people. Read Joel 2:12-14 again and marvel at the grace, mercy and kindness of our God. In spite of our sin and disobedience, God longs for us to return to Him- to rend our hearts and seek after Him. God knew that ultimately the price for our sin would be the death of His Son yet He still pursued us. What love!!!

  1. What aspect of God’s character is most evident to you as He waits for people to repent? How does that make you love Him more?
  2. How does God’s faithfulness (He is a covenant keeping God) change or shape your relationships?
  3. What role did prayer play in Jesus’ life and how does/ought that shape your prayer life?

If you are far from God, even now He is calling. Repent! Turn from your sin and turn to him with all your heart. Rest in the hope and joy that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Joel 2:32) That is good news!
