The King We Need

I have good news. God knows exactly what we need. While we are caught up in outward appearances, God cares more for our heart. He longs for our obedience more than anything. Israel compared themselves to their neighbors and wanted an earthly king. God’s desire was for the people to be content with Him as king. Israel’s first king was one who looked the part, but he was not wholly committed to the Lord. In His infinite wisdom, God knew what his people needed. They needed a king after his own heart - regardless of what the people had envisioned. David did not come from nobility, wealth, or influence, but that didn’t matter to God. What mattered was his obedience to the Lord.  God used an unlikely shepherd boy to accomplish his purposes because that young man fully trusted God. Yet, every earthly king will fall short. God waited patiently to send the perfect king, the one we could trust with our hearts, the one who is gracious, sure, and faithful.

God knew our greatest need was a redeemer. He sent His one and only Son so that whoever believes in him will not perish but have heaven and eternal life. Regardless of race, color, status, or occupation, Jesus fills our greatest need. That is good news!
