It's easy for our hearts to be troubled. You can say that again! So many fears can paralyze us and keep us wandering through a maze of worry. And it doesn't help if Jesus says stay put in the situation. While we look for the way out, Jesus tells us HE is the way to life. It's not about the destination as much as it is about delighting in Jesus. We can't get to the place God is preparing for us without a person; Jesus. Don't let your heart be troubled. You have good reasons.
Each week, as you take in the Bible, find some friends to talk it out. You can follow this simple guide to help. First, R.E.A.D. and P.R.A.Y. on your own. Then, meet with friends to share what you've learned.
R - Repeated words
E - Examine and mark
A - Ask what you learn about God

Sunday's Message Text: John 14:1-7
Bible Plan Reading - Week 43
START IT.
We are currently in a teaching series, I AM: Jesus In His Own Words, focused on meeting Jesus in the book of John. From Sunday's message in John 14 or the Meet Jesus Bible Reading Plan this week, what is impacting you the most? Was there a word, phrase, Bible verse, or theme that impacted you?
STUDY IT.
According to Jesus in John 14:1, what is the first reason our hearts don't need to be troubled? What's the connection to God and Jesus and why would that matter?
Look at John 14:2-4. Where is Jesus going and what is He preparing? What's the second reason your heart doesn't need to be troubled?
From John 14:6-7, what does Jesus say about himself? Make a list. Pick 1 item from the list that stands out to you the most. Why did you pick that? What's a third reason our hearts don't need to be troubled?
Why is Jesus making so many connections to the Father (God) here in John 14:1-7? What were the disciples looking for?
Jesus says "you do know him [God]" in John 14:7. How does this statement, along with the statement, "I am the way" change everything about a person's life?
SHARE IT.
What picture comes to mind when you hear "the way"? What is Jesus saying he is?
Do you agree that life is a road to figure out who is God? Do you think every person is looking to answer that question? What is a personal example?
How does Jesus encourage us by talking about future events instead of current circumstances?
How do you feel knowing that Jesus has plans to come back for you one day? Why would your heart need this?
What kind of person would need to hear Jesus say, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"? Who do you have in mind right now? Let's pray for them right now.
FINAL THOUGHT
According to Jesus, we have good reasons for our hearts not to be troubled. It's so easy though to miss what's right in front of us. If we're not careful and if we don't slow down to think about it, we can easily miss what Jesus is saying. His first followers missed it from time to time. Our hearts will always be troubled without him. We over-think. He over-delivers. From this point in John, Jesus heads for the cross. Our comfort comes from his cross.
